Is this possible?

Hi, I have a small problem. So my main computer's motherboard recently got busted and had a raid 0 SATA harddrive setup connected to it. I have a lot of valuable information on this raid setup and want to transfer it to my secondary computer. Is it possible for me to plug my main computer's raid 0 hd's into my secondary computer and have it read simply as an extra drive?

To put everything in perspective, I have two WD 10k rpm raptors in raid 0. my secondary computer's motherboard model is Abit IC7-G (i875 Canterwood 800/533 FSB). It has two SATA ports that I'm plugging my raid 0 setup into.

I doubt it will work. The only way it will work is if you have the exact same RAID controller on both motherboards.

Yet another reason not to RAID 0 drives...

Anyways, best bet, if you truly value the information and you never backed it up, try and find the exact same motherboard as the one you "busted"

ok thx. i guess i'll have to wait for the rma on my motherboard to get the information then =P btw, the way i busted my motherboard was by something weird with the bios update. I have an a8n-sli deluxe and I used the asus update utility to update my bios. I downloaded the new bios online then used it with the utility. It went through all the steps then rebooted. after the reboot, nothing. it was a blank screen. It didn't even go into POST. sooooo stupid. How can it mess up even through asus certified software??? but in any case, a rma is in order.

You need the same raid controller as you had before like Varun said. Best bet would be the same motherboard. Raid 0 should not be a storage solution at all. Expensive lesson to learn.

After a BIOS update you sometimes need to do a CMOS reset - put the jumper in the reset position for a minute, then move it back, reboot and see if it works.

Hmm...not sure I agree with others...I had a RAID 1 setup and changed controllers (different models) and the RAID array was fine...

Both controllers were from the same company...maybe that had something to do with it.

RAID 1 is not the same at all, you have two drives with exactly the same data on them. At any time you could pull one of them out and put it in another computer and have two exact copies.

RAID 0 splits the data in half, with half being on one drive, the other half being on the other. If you split the drives up you lose everything.

If you have an extra HD that is big enough
1)Install the standard SATA drives in the existing OS (ie Raptors)
2)Ghost or copy the RAID 0 setup to the extra HD
3)Setup RAID 0 on the new Puter with the Raptors
4)Ghost to the Raptors
Finally as usual make sure all is backedup before shooting ;)

The exact same controller basically always works. If you stay with the same conroller maker (nforce 3 to 4 or one sil controller to another or something like that) there's a pretty good chance it will work. Going from nvidia to Intel however I would say it's 1/100 that it will work.
