Is this possible?

I think I ruined my motherboard a week or two ago. The scenario is this : went to install the cpu/heatink, as I was putting the heatsink on, on the clip that clamps down over that socket part that holds the cpu, my screwdriver apparently hit the motherboard and left a scratch. I called Soyo tech support and they said that I could have damaged the memory circuit (or something like that) or the mobo was defective, is it possible that this is why my computer beeps continuously and I cannot boot it up?

No, I didn't tell them that. They said it could have been defective or that I had done something while I was installing the heatsink (in this case, I really did do this, by mistake). But I've gotten the RMA/sending it out.
