Is this possible? Splitting a connection after its been routed

cable modem => router => 3 connections ---> one of the connections -> wireless hub or something else that can split the connection into two?

Is this possible? Would I run into problems playing games with high pings?

I'd like to have two of my computers(desktop+desktop or 1 desktop+laptop) always have a connection.

It should work fine. The only issue (which shouldn't be based on internet connection speed) is the fact that maximum bandwidth between systems will be the speed of the shared links.
