Hi people

I have KT7 with Athlon Thunderbird 700.

I have NOT done any modifications to the CPU i.e. pencils or otherwise.

BUT when I go into softmenu I can select what ever CPU speed I want. I just ran some Sandra Tests using user defined settings :

700Mhz = 1957 MIPS and 957 MFLOPS
800Mhz = 2222 MIPS and 1094 MFLOPS

The temps only rise to 34C, when running CPU and then MEM benchmark in a row from a warm boot, in both cases.

I thought the multiper thingys were locked on these cpus? I don't understand...overclocking can't be this easy what am I missing????

I suppose if I keep upping it and get to 900 or Gig then I should run some long tests and see what temps and stability are like. What about Voltages do I need to consider this only when things get unstable?

And then there is the FSB thing. I know I want to be care with this as I wacked it up loads once and I fried my HD and CDROM drive!!! so what can I do with that? edge it up a little bit to like 135MHz? and whats the CPU increase thing how high should I go with that?

Thanks for your help.!!!

Knowley new to overclocking and can't believe its that EASY!

Yeah, sounds like it's unlocked. No way will you be able to get 135Mhz FSB on a KT7 - the highest you'd be likely to get is around 110 or so. Go for 8X100, and then bump the FSB up a little bit and see how far you can get. If things look comfortable, perhaps increase the multiplier to 8. Don't forget to increase voltage if you're having problems. 1.85V is no problem.

Good luck :)

I could have sworn this was locked B4 and thats why I gave up because I could not be arsed to injure my self removing the bloody globalwin Fop38 heat sink...it really gave me grief on the way in!! grrr

Anyways I am off to run some tests at 800 Mhz with standard FSB etc.

Whilst I am doing that could someone give me some pointers in the following :

I want to know 3 things. 1. At how many increments should increase each of these options?
2. What should I start at ?
3. and most important what should I not go above?

Options being : CPU FSB/PCI in MHZ
CPU FSB Plus

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!! I must be lucky with this CPU.

and so you can have a laugh..last time i was playing with those 2 options I wacked them both to the highest settings possible. I had to get a new HD under Warrenty and buy a new CDROM...but everything works fine...cool !?

Well, seeing as you're unlikely to get much over 110Mhz FSB, you don't really need to worry about the PCI being out of spec. The 1/3 PCI divider will be in use, and even at 110Mhz FSB, the PCI will only be running at 36.5, which is no problem for most PCI devices. I have no problem running my PCI devices at 40Mhz.

It's important to take things nice and slowly, don't increase the FSB by more than a few Mhz at a time. Just experiment and see what settings are stable etc.

Good luck.

Whoops!!!

I almost stuffed it again I think. I changed the multiplier to 9x100 and it would not do anything so I removed the battery and it went into BIOS and let me change it back...pheww.

So what do you reckon happened there?

I am now a bit warey of trying 8x100 or 8.5 what do ya reckon?

...and back to the FSB bit... CPU FSB/PCI = no higher than 110
CPU FSB Plus = no higher than ?

Thanks again

Well obviously 9x100 multiplier is out as is would not even post.

8x100 multiplier works ok.

and 8x100 multiplier with 2 CPU + and 103 FSB won't boot into wondows properly.

I think I leave it at a normal 800MHz!

QUALITY...CHEERS PEOPLE!
