I am in the proccess of putting together a new system. Rest assured it is going to rock. It will be running my entertainment system. So it is gonna have to look good, I mean the case and all. So anyway I saw a guy selling a little 4"LCD screen. i was wondering if it would be possible to hook this up to your computer in a way so that it can be used to see one thing while the monitor is doing something else. In case that confused you let me give you an example. I want to have my monitor(in this case a Sony Wega 36") doing whatever I need it to, you know like playing games or surfing the net or whatever. Then I want the little screen to display something else such as a screen with the motherboard monitor info on it, or possibly just a screen saver. I just need to know if and how this can be done. I know that the newer versions of windows support dual monitors, but my video card will likely be a ATI AIW Radeon, so i don't know if that will work for me. Could I use 2 video cards in the same system? LMK what you guys think thanks. Okay heres the link to the little LCD the guy selling it just sent it to me. So keep the info coming. Also keep letting me know what you think of the Wega sitiuation. LCD Okay the guy selling it says it has the RCA jack on it so that it can be used with a vid card that has vid out, but that was gonna be how I connected to my Wega, and other suggestions.

I'm assuming the LCD you saw has a plain monitor connection? (in which case this is very cool and you should make another post about it, price, availability, manufacturer's web page? hehe)

Anyways...
You could use a single card if it had DualHead like the Matrox G400 DualHead.

You should also be able to use an AGP video card as a primary display, and a PCI video card as a secondary display.

Pretty neat idea.

Yeah thanks Vinny, thats what I am thinking. If anyone could possibly give me some technical info about it, I would appreciate it. I'm not sure if the monitor had a regular monitor cable. The post didn't say much and his link was broken. I hope he sends me a good one.

Is your Wega the XBR version? Even then, I don't know if it has VGA connectors like some HDTVs. If the 36" Wega doesn't have VGA connectors you are stuck at 640x480.

I don't even own it yet. Whats the differance though, when your gonna be sitting farther away you are gonna want higher res. so you can see it better. Plus you can buy scan convertors to push it to 1024x768. I have other ideas such as a princeton, but they are about the same price and don't have as good an image quality, and with the scan convertor I can get the same res. on both. LMK

Scan converter? WTF?

TV out is not pretty lets just say that. Yes, the ATI AIW Radeon is better than most for TV out- but that doesn't mean it's good. Not to mention that it slows down while doing TV out.

Your best bet is to get an HDTV that has a VGA connector- it probably won't be much more, if any, than that Wega. ;)

TV-out is not good for normal readin of webpages and such, I wouldn't guess that it would be great with gaming either, although I don't know.

mikef208:

Your intentions are good, I know this, but all you keep saying, in this thread and the last one which I responded to, were "keep the info coming." Wouldn't hurt for you to word it a bit differently. I, as well as anyone here, are more than happy to help you out with our personal experiences but I think you should go about it a little bit differently.

Anyhow, from what I've gathered from this and the last thread you posted regarding large monitors, you're going to want to do something different besides what you're talking about. A projector would be your best solution for making your computer display a large picture. They are pretty clear and basically just blow up what your computer is already displaying. I think going that route will give you a lot better image quality than any Wega or large computer display.

divinemartyr, the reason I say keep the info coming is because it gives the thread a bump and then more people give me there input on it. See the problem is when people dnt' read the thread completely. See in this perticular thread you are saying something about my monitor(which i appreciate that help, just not in this thread). This thread is about the little LCD. So if somebody else has any good ideas on how to do this LMK.

k just to reply to someone who said games dont look good on tv out. i have a geforce 256 w/ tv out in the form of s-video. it comes with an s-video to rca converter, so i just plug that into my tv. ur right, normal win and web and such is barley readable. However your wrong on a few things I think. First, i can run my geforce on my tv at 800x600 and it looks better, the tv is like 6 years old and is some off name, quazar or sumtin. Second, games look awesome. I play UT on there and it rocks, the color and detail is great. (dont ask me why.) finally, i watch many movies on my tv off of my computer. these also look great. just some info.

Thanks SXMP, this is really causing problems though, cause some people say it looks bad and others say it doesn't. Pretty much everybody says that viewing web pages would look bad, so what would be a good way to view web pages in this setup?

Any other opinions on how TV out looks on a TV? Or any other way I can do this. Or any other good options for a TV/Monitor, links or at least a web address are appreciated. I have been searching, but I can't find much of anything. Thanks, guys

Sweet Xanathar, I have another post just about the TV, not about how to hook up the little LCD, but I'll take these in whatever post I can get them. i think someone in the other psot recommended sampo, what are the differances in the 3 sampo HDTV's, I know the 34 inch is Widescreen, is that the only major differance besides the size?
