Is this possible? 1 Modem, 1 Network, 2 Hubs?

Here's the setup. There's a cable modem in apartment A that transmits wifi for apartment B via a router. Apartment B has a lot of gadgets that the owner wants to have connected via a wired connection.

Is there a way to take the wifi signal from the router in apartment A, and use that to feed a device in apartment B that can have multiple devices plugged in to it to receive the signal?

If so, can it also be setup so that all the devices in apartment A be on the same network as apartment B?

Don't worry, this has nothing to do with stealing an internet connection; I'm just using apartment A and B as examples 🙂

Thanks!

Yes - What you want is called a Wireless Bridge. 2 access points communicating via each other wirelessly, and allowing the LAN ports on each of the access points (if you choose to use routers with wireless APs / built in switches). They will all be on the same network and everything should work as you've laid out (with wireless being the only hitch for stability / speed).

What type of equipment do you currently have? If you plan to use SOHO type equipment, your better off using the same manufacturer to create the bridge (if using the manufacturer's firmware). DD-WRT (third party firmware) also supports bridging and will cause less fits when mixing/matching devices. You can read up more on it here and configurations using dd-wrt:

Install a Wireless Router that is configure as a Wireless Bridge in location B.

Once configured to connect to the source Wireless, you can plug Network devices into the Wireless Router's Bridge Switch.

Most Wireless Routers as is can not be configured as Wireless Bridge.

Routers flashed by the free 3rd party firmware can.

Here is a list of Routers (end of page), http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation

Here how to configure, http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge

😎

Solid info my man. Thanks!
