Is this PC good for gaming, Photoshop, and video editing?

I am making this PC to do some light Photoshop and video editing, but the main purpose is gaming. My budget is $800 and I am buying everything off Newegg unless you guys can recommend another site with better prices. (I am thinking of overclocking)

Case: APEVIA X-DREAMER4

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K

Graphic Card: SAPPHIRE 100354OC-2L Radeon HD 7870

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD Blue 1TB (I was thinking of getting the Black, but when looking at the specs it also runs at 7200 RPM)

PSU: RAIDMAX Blackstone series RX-700AC 700W (I know the PSU is bad so can anyone recommend a PUS)

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB

Can you link the prices of these parts? I would like to know how much you're paying for these before giving any feedback.

I'm not in the loop when it comes to GPUs, but on first inspection:

  • Are you overclocking? If not, just get a 3570 over the 3570K... Or even better, go for a 4xxx series (Haswell). It's newer and "better" for the same price afaik. And I'd go for an i7 Haswell if at all possible (which is 4 cores, and 8 virtual afaik, given Hyper-Threading). More cores = more threads = good for video editing.
  • If you absolutely want to get a mechanical/spindle hard drive, get at least a WD Black (or equivalent). The Blue series is considerably slower than the Black (5400rpm vs. 7200rpm among other things); I'm pretty sure Photoshop absolutely has to use scratch space, meaning your hard drive will be a bottleneck if you're doing heavier work. A faster drive will really benefit you all around. That being said, I'm sure a lot of people will recommend getting an SSD instead of a traditional hard drive, though the amount of storage you get per dollar is less afaik.
  • I don't know about the RAM, but I do know 8GB is the absolute minimum you should be considering, given what you want to do.
  • I've never heard of RAIDMAX, but it sounds pretty low-tier. If it is in fact low-tier, you should invest in a better PSU (and pay attention to amps per rail or whatever - wattage is only part of the story).
You should give us your budget btw.

WD blues are 7200rpm drives. Only the greens are 5400rpm. Blacks have the advantage of a 5yr warranty.

Case: $50
CPU: $220
Graphics Card: $175
Hard Drive: $70
PUS: $70
Motherboard: $124
Ram: $47(this is only 4gb but there is a promo that comes with the motherboard that gives me another 4gb to make 8gb same brand.)

Total: $756 with tax and shipping it is about $828 (it is little over my budget but i think i can do it)

Nice build. You'll also save another $10 by using the gift card that comes with the 4670K.

I'd pick a better PSU with 5 yr warranty and better caps... The CX units are for budget rigs only. TX650 $70 ($50 AR). Just $14 more and you get 150W more overhead (even more if you look at +12V only), semi passive fan, 5 year warranty.

Would also pick Arc Midi R2 for $10 more after rebate. It's FAR better than NZXT Source (3x 140mm fans, sturdier built, fan controller, better cable routing, modular cages, filters, window etc.). This is closer to Source but $20 less AR: Cooler Master Elite 341.

Can you recommend a different graphics card because it is sold out and a PSU that is modular.

To be fair u dont need a modular psu because you'll be using most cables anyway and that case has plenty of space to hide cables; besides, it's a one time job.

I think you just saved my bacon! I have a dead Black sitting here. It's a few months prior to 5 years old. Had no idea they had that kind of warranty on them. Just called WD and it looks like they'll replace it for me after I run a diagnostic.

Thanks a lot.

It's back in stock now. As for the PSU, I agree with lehtv. You don't need a modular as long as you buy the appropriate capacity.
