Is this overclock too extreme? XP2500

Is it possible to have an OC that is too extreme. :)

My buddy has his XP2500 OC'ed to 204x11 = 2.24Ghz which required 1.84v, as reported by CPUZ, to be stable and his load temp is 62C. Is this pushing the volatge envelope and going to shorten the CPU life significantly? He doesn't really care if it dies in 6 months, but two weeks would suck.

Recommendations on how to get a little more out of his system?

I'm assuming he's not reading the diode temps... so his core temp, if read by the diode would probably be about 70 C. That's a bit high, although still within AMD's specs. I'm more concerned about the voltage. I don't like to go above 1.75 but there are others who have been running at 1.85 for some time without failure. If it's stable, I guess it's up to him whether he thinks it's worth the added heat and voltage. BTW... the KT6 isn't exactly the best option for overclocking. If he wants to get the most of it he should go with an NF7-S or A7N8X Deluxe or 8RDA+ (or whatever the newest model numbers are).

You're correct, MBM can't read the diode on that board. It's an option in the settings but if you select it, it "pops" off of it.

I know the KT6 isn't exactly an OC'ing board, but the cost of those others is much higher. OC'ing wasn't his main consideration, rather cost was. So he's working with what he has and getting the most he can.

AIDA32 may be able to read the diode temps. The temps won't kill the CPU early, the voltage probably will though.

Only thing a little too extreme are the temps. They aren't "FRY MY CPU NOW" but they aren't healthy.

What cooling is he using?

Zalman CNPS3100+

He also has this fan as an intake and an exhaust. He's running only the CPU fan on high at the moment. I think he was going to put them all on high speed and see what happened to the temps.

He has this case with a Thermaltake dual fan 360W PSU.

I told hime to bump the FSB back down to 200 so it's in sync with the ram.
