hello everyone,

i now have 4 sticks of 512 MB OCZ gold series memory. when i had 2 sticks, my memory was operating at 180 MHz (DDR360) using the 266 MHz divider @ 1T

OCZ Gold Series

after populating the 4 memory modules, i now operate at 135 MHz (DDR270) using the 200 MHz divider @ 2T

since i am overclocking my processor at 10 x 270, i couldn't go above the 200 MHz divider for my memory (e.g. 333 MHz, 400 MHz divider).

the CAS is still set at 2-2-2-5 at default voltage.

what i want to know is this an okay setting? i notice all my games still play nice and smooth including Battlefield 2. my 3dmark scores are lower but i'm fine with that. should i return the sticks and get just 2 x 1 GB sticks instead?

This is a tough one :) It seems to be random based on your particular processor on how high you can run 4x512mb sticks. First, I'd try to loosen the timings to 3-4-4-10 (possibly 2T) or something similar and see if you can run at a higher divider. If you can get them to run at near 200mhz, the performance should be much better than 135mhz 2-2-2-5. Check some benchmarks to be sure.

If you can't get any more out of it than that, you will be okay with your current setup, but its memory performance is very low compared to other A64 systems. If you feel it's lacking, I'd take the ram back and try to get 2x1gb sticks (as long as can sell your old ram to get most of the $$ back that you paid for it)

And one last thing that may help you out.. If the max HTT for your setup is higher than 300mhz, then you may get better overall performance by setting your system up like this:
CPU 9x300 = 2700
RAM 266 divider = ram@200mhz (for 2x1gb)
-or -
RAM 200 divider = ram@150mhz (for 4x512mb)

wow, thanks for the great information. you seem to be very knowledgeable. i am going to try the settings you recommended and report back with some results. i am a little hesitant with getting the 2 x 1 GB since i'll be spending more money and i've already spent tons on my new system.

okay, here's an update. at first i thought i had it made. i set my memory to 3-4-4-10 @ 2T since i have 4 sticks of memory. i played unreal 2004 for almost 2 hours when i got a blue screen and the system rebooted. this is better than what i had before because unreal would usually crash within 5 minutes.

i didn't have any luck with 300 x 9 for some reason so i had to go back to 270 x 10. my memory is set at 266 divider where memory is at 180 MHz (DDR360). *sigh* this is so frustrating.
