Bah, typical "Rice Rocket". Its funny how with cars I hate American and love Japanese, but with bikes I love American and hate Japanese.

Now that's funny. I happen to own that particular typical rice rocket. It is in every way superior to a Harley.
Superior for the owner maybe, but to everyone else it looks like crap! :D

In your opinion :p
True...I don't like bikes covered by sheetmetal 'skin' (though some Ducati's do it quite nicely!) The only Suzukis I like are the motocross ones with minimal 'skin'. Of course, its important to remember that I do not own a bike, I don't read up on bikes or bike motorsports, and I don't think I'll buy one in the near future. I just know what I like in terms of looks!

I'd love to see a bike covered in sheetmetal skin (bodywork?)!

Idiots to compare a sport bike to a harley. Totally different. Ones made for hauling ass though tight turns and high speed the other is comfort -more upright stance-crusing. Compare those bikes to a beull or something but not a harley...

Guys I know who ride harleys says it's the "experiance" , I don't really understand what that means though? One thing is harleys do hold thier value unlike the Japanese bikes.

They hold their value because there are plenty of fellow morons who totally buy into The Marketing and think they're getting their money's worth on a quality product... They also hold their values because they don't make anything new - bikes were the same for like 10-20 years with different colored gas tanks and different accessories - so basically if you're buying a '99 bike, you're getting a '86 bike, and if you buy an '86 bike, you can say you have a '99...

Sportbikes depreciate because there is always something new and faster that comes out and makes the previous version (no matter how insanely fast and high performing) look like a piece of crap, which makes guys sell those off cheap to get the latest and greatest.

By the way Carbonyl, I don't think a brand new (realistically worth) $4000 Harley should have a $16,000 premium on it for "comfort" and be considered a good deal at $20K.

I either saw that harley, or one very similar to it in a shop recently. Don't keep up on harley models, so not sure if it was a match...the wheels were what caught my eye, and what made me think I'd seen this one before. It actually looked rather nice in person. I have to say: even though I don't plan on ever owning a harley, there are some very cool looking ones out there.

That said, I'm a Kawasaki man =) Think I'll be going for a new ZX-6RR next. Though of course the ultimate goal is to pick up a Duc sometime. I'm also interested in riding an Aprilia to see how they compare. Look very sweet, so hopefully they feel just as good.

After riding my 500r around for the past two months, and then coming home to take out the 900SS that I learned on, I began to wonder how I didn't kill myself on that thing. Eesh, heh.

In a Forum full of PNG's it's understandable that Jap Sport Bikes are the prefered poison.

I believe those wheels were used because they direct more airflow into the radiator and engine.

i'm now experienced enough to understand this....harley guys don't buy harleys to race...they buy b/c they enjoy the bike. I bought my bike to rip up on the streets and hot rod. I'm sure most all harley guys went through this phase....when you're too old to hotrod and do wheelies that you learn to appreciate coasting on two wheels alone.

Yeah, my bike has bodywork too, but I bet neither of our bikes had bodywork made out of sheetmetal. Cool bike by the way.

Japanese bikes all look like cheap little plastic claptraps. Who the fvck wants to ride around on a glorified moped with their ass sticking up in the air? Ugghhhh... No amount of speedy acceleration can compensate for that indignity. Motorcycles are meant for cruising.

Harley-Davidson can charge 5 times as much for their bikes, and people willingly pay because they make a quality product. Most people who buy new Harleys are professionals (average income of buyers is $80K+), whereas most riders of Japanese motorcycles are highschool dropouts and other scrubs.

Indian Motorcycle also makes some good looking (though very expensive) bikes. Their distribution is somewhat limited right now, though fast growing.

Dude, if by high quality you mean parts vibrating off, oil spills, 1950's-era engine design, and ridiculously heavy weights coupled with poor performance figures, then yeah, Hardley Davidson makes high quality products.

Dude if you mean by a whole hellofalot' of 50 years old Harley's are still being enjoyed today and even more from the 60's 70's and 80's because it's trivial to work on em' and thier parts don't change every month keeping the costs down and availability high, then yeah, Hardley Davidson must make high quality products.

How many 80's era Nighthawks or Vulcans you see still runnin' around? Most old Harleys are still running in tip top condition. And what wrong with 1950's era design? The less moving parts usually translates into greater reliablity and a simple design is easy to work on by a weekend mechanic.

Aren't these built by BMW now?

EDIT: Nevermind, the new Indian Motorcycle Company is the result of a merger between Indian Motorcyle Holding, American Indian Motorcycle, California Motorcyle and their affiliated companies. I thought it was BMW because the same dealerships that sell BMW sell Indian here in Charlotte.

Want to my my black and white tube-style television for $20,000?? I'm going to get a plasma screen, but if you want to stay in the past where your bike was good compared to others, great. You can't argue technology, and you can't argue performace data, and you can't argue bang for the buck. Harleys don't have a real lot going for them other than great marketing and lots of sheep.

Harley Davidson is the only auto/bike that doesn't depreciate in value. My brother bought one a few years ago for $6000 and sold it for $8000 two years later. He did nothing to it.
