Is this normal?

I've got a new AMD approved 300 watt PS, a new K7VZA mobo with a 1GHZ Tbird and a new Volcano II fan. It runs stable. It's fine. The only thing is that depending on my activity, I can hear the fan speed up or slow down. Is this normal?

I'm assuming you mean the powersupply fan? If so, the PS is likely a model that changes the fan speed based on temperature. What kind of supply is it?

You might have a heat sensor on your fan that will spin faster when it detects more heat (as a result of you doing more intensive work), and will slow down when you're not doing much to lower the noise. Hope this helps.
