Is this normal?

I had a stable 3GHZ overclock on my E6600, with 2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM (no RAM OC).

I swapped that out for 2x2GB DDR2 800 RAM (specs said identical aside from capacity).

My OC is no longer stable. I have 1.4v already, don't want to go higher. So for now I'm back down to stock. Completely stable at stock speeds.

Is this what people mean when they say 680i is bad for OC? Makes me want the 750i even more...

I would blame the ram, not the cpu.

What voltage do you have to the ram and northbridge?

2x2GB takes more nb voltage to run than 2x1gb.

ram is at 2.1v. I won't be going higher.

Dunno my NB, I can check when I get home. What's a safe limit where volts won't kill it on a 680i? (obviously heat may be an issue, I want to know the electrical danger zone).

I don't know if it's the CPU or the mobo that limits my OC, but I could never get this chip stable above 3GHZ. Hell, it wouldn't even post above 3.2.

2.1 is alot of voltage to throw at your memory, even if it is rated for this. Did you try to bump your NB up a notch or two? This will help with the termination for all that ram.
