I got 3300 with a hercules geforce 256 ddr, 256mb 2100 crucial, amd athlon 1100, and a asus a7a266 mobo. So I think your score is a little low not by much but I have heard of systems close to yours getting around 4500.

That sounds about right. Pretty close to what I got with my P3-933@1050Mhz and GF2 GTS OC'd to ~Pro levels.

Keep in mind that your video card doesn't support Dx8, so you can't run the Nature test. This test is also heavily weighed in the final score, so your 3000 might actually provide the same performance in all the other tests as a Dx8 card that scores 4000 or more.

3dMark2001 was put down at first because of this, but with the widespread nature of Dx8 cards in high end boxes, it seems to not be that much of an issue anymore.

I know people who are getting 7-8000 3dmarks in 2001 and they only have a Geforce 2 Pro with an Athlon 1.4G. What would be the reason of this if they can't do the nature test? Why should they get so high of 3dmarks?

If they're getting that high of scores they are doing major tweaking and overclocking. With a new XP processor and a g3 or 8500 you should be above the 6k range without any tweaking or overclocking. I wouldn't worry about your score too much. If it bothers you then start tweaking and overclocking, if you're not into that then remember it's just a benchmark that's fairly meaningless.

This is a friends setup, he overclocks a lot so go from there. here it is, but remember it is only a test, that, like scoob said, means nothing. But I doubt anyone got 7-8k with those specs that might be closer to 3d2000 specs.

You might want to check a few things out. It sounds about right, but there may be a few things to improve.
I have the almost identical sys. specs except I run a T-bird 1 Ghz w/256 DDR SDram. The DDR/ T-bird
accounts for the higher initial score.

- Check your AGP aperture size. When I bumped mine to 128 MB, I went from 3313 to 3580.

- Check your nVidia drivers. When I installed 23.11 (over 21.83), I went from 3580 to 3829.

Those are my two best increases (and the easiest). By flashing the bios, tweaking memory timings,
and tweaking the vid card (I'm using Riva Tuner - Thanks to Rand for recomending it!), I've increased to
3930.

I'm not too sure how much weight in the 3Dmark scores. Opinions seem to vary. I'm using it just to
benchmark my tweaks.

Next for me - overclocking :D

Their lying or it's under 3DMark 2000 not 2001.
There is no processor out there that can push a GF2 of any sort up to 7-8 thousand 3DMarks irregardless of what tweaking they've done.
That's the territory of overclocked GF3 Ti200's.

Your score sounds about right I'd say. Remember 3DM2001 is heavily weighted towards the Nature test which it only lets cards that have full hardware DX8 support.
Your card is probably about as fast as a system that scores 5000 or so points that can run the Nature test.

3DM2001 is far from being a terribly accurate determinator of real world performance in any case so I wouldnt be terribly concerned about your score.

Just out of curiousity, what "setting" is 3dmark2001 (when people say i got blah blah this or blah blah that) scored on? like if you report here and say i got 7500, does that mean you tested at 1024x768x32/texture compression/no aa/d3d t&l/double buffer/24 bit z buffer?

cause you could turn it down to 640x480x16 and get a higher score and report it. just wondering

it seems if everyone uses the lowest number then no one could cheat (ie, go lower). which one are folks using?

i just assumed the default 1024x768x32/yadda yadda

I think most use the 1024x768x32 defualt setting. That's what I use.

If you go to the comparisons part of it, you can match up your score vs. other similar configurations.
Most of the ones I've seen are the default, but sometimes guys won't do the whole second part of the test
and their scores are the same as mine. What's up with that? And it's not 'cause they can't do them. I know
they can't do the Nature one, but they should be able to do the others because they have the
same chipset as me. (I only look at the scores of the same chipset - so I can get a feel if my system is setup
OK). I think it may somehow raise their scores. Who knows.

Who really cares, anyway? I saw where I am - I'm done with it. Already ready to uninstall it.

1-if I want to change AGP aperture size , what should I do? . I am using NVmax tweaking utility.can this program be used for it? Is there a risk for changing it? If I change, how will I turn the default settings.

2-I have the drivers which came with the card. how can I know the version of my driver?are these numbers show the version?if it does ,what is it? 4.13.01.1462 and 23.11 drivers have the name "DETONATOR XP" under windows98/me drivers section. are they for windows xp?

3-well maybe I am making u angry and asked a lot of things but I am a newbie and I don't know how will I install the new drivers. I don't know anything about installing driver. I am afraid of doing something wrong. will u please tell how to install the new ones and how to came back to the old one? shortly but clearly...

4-Lastly, does the nature demo make a difference of thousands of 3dmarks? I don't beleive the ones who get 7000-8000 marks.

I was using the 1024x768x32 defualt setting except tex. comp. yea yea... In fact, enabling tex. comp. made a lot (!) difference... From 3003 to 3040...:):p

1. AGP aperture size is changed in the bios. It should be set to half the size of your system memory

2. Detonator XP is just a marketing term, sometimes they are listed as Detonator 4/XP. If they are listed in the win98/me section then they are for win98/me. only the drivers in the 2K/XP section are for XP and obviously 2K. The latest drivers on the nvidia site are 23.11s but the 23.12s were leaked for win9/me about a week ago, the link is in one of the old threads here. You really should completely uninstall the detonator drivers before installing a newer or older version, there are many utilities out there to do this for you. just search on google for them.
