I have in my Intel System normally HD4870X2 2GB - I got new card for another system (GTX 285) - guess never put these cards in same system and ran bench mark before, since have couple of GTX 285 I did try it in my Intel system now.

In FarCry2 the bench mark demo (the long demo played 3 times) at 1920 x1200 with everything set to Ultimate High and DX10 on and 8x Anti-Aliasing with Fire, Physis, Real Trees all as high as go (Very High) - seems the GTX 285 is faster.

How in the heck is that? have others found the same thing at these settings or there about?

HD 4870X2
min: 12
avg: 45
max: 76

GTX 285
min: 28
avg: 44
max: 92

using Cat v9.4 from AMD (4870X2) and for Nvidia v185.81 drivers (GTX 285)

So is this normal or think is some sort of driver error/setting holding HD 4870 X2 back? Others here with HD 4870X2, is that about right?

Odd thing is actually can feel the difference when playing, the GTX 285 is much more smooth, also seems that no longer does the HD4870X2 look better (graphics) - I see many reviews with the GTX 285 at these res never beating HD 4870X2.

HD 4890 got:

min: 12
avg: 33
max: 56

so wonder then if 2 HD4890's is much more performance in my rig considering where HD4870X2 is?

Actually making me re-think my systems at home (at that res I could use the extra frames as prefer to keep graphic settings up when I play) and about pairing couple of GTX 285 in SLi vs keeping ATI cards in my main systems, putting ATI cards in the kids systems...

System is:
i7 965EE cpu
Asus Extreme II x58 (using very latest Intel drivers)
12GB DDR3-1333MHz
X-Fi Titanium Pro Audio
Xeno KillerNIC
Vista 64 Ultimate
X25-M in Raid 0

Is Crossfire enabled? I bet I would get minimum fps of 12 with a single HD 4870 at that resolution with those settings, probably higher. In comparison, a HD4870 1GB gets 29,5FPS minimum at 1920*1200 everything maxed out, with 4xAA/16xAF. Adding 4xAA shouldn't slow it down to 12fps min.

Cross-Fire is working - one thing that shows it actually is, the Max Frames.

I only have HD 4890 (do have HD4870, in wife system and thats hands off), that does beat the min. frames, not the rest though (avg and max).

I also know TWO hd 4890's in CF will get 60 min fps at 1920*1200 ULTRA HIGH, 4xaa 16xAF.

Check your ATI CCC 3d-settings. Maybe it's set to max aa/af, edge detect. That;s 24xAA, if it's overriding FC2, that could explain the low min fps perhaps?

Thanks marc, I'll put HD 4870X2 back in and check settings out - seems awful low to me and that x2 should with ease handle GTX 285, hopefully its just something like this.

Actually think about just getting another 4890 and crossfire them as you have above...

Checked the CCC Settings - all look good...

I installed HD4890 now - boy did GTX 285 hand it to that at 1920res in FC2... makes me wonder if driver on the AMD side - seems hard to believe 285 is in fact faster in this rig with all the eye candy on.
