Is this normal? Mobo doesn't have onboard sound and chassis doesn't have speaker pins

This is most ridiculous imo, but maybe something is broken.

My case doesn't have the speaker pins - you know, like these... http://www.hardwarezone.com/im...1215/11-fp_hdd_led.jpg

My mobo *does* have a spot for it, but it's kind of pointless for me if the case actually doesn't support it.

I called both MSI and Thermaltake. Thermaltake claims "new motherboards have onboard sound." The MSI guy was a moron and said nothing useful.

In any event, how the F*** am I supposed to hear if the machine is POSTing properly if there's no sound? I mean, what kind of retarded setup is this?

Is there any way I can get the darn thing to let me hear sound?

I have a case without a speaker on the case either (the ANTEC Solo, unless I overlooked a cable somewhere), and no beepiness from the motherboard (MSI K8Neo 4 SLI Platinum). Some motherboards (particularly ones marketed towards enthusiasts) have LED post diagnostics on the motherboard or as a plug in (such as MSI's D-bracket).
I just go through a mental checklist when I run into problems, unplug all but the minimum and trial and error if I don't have a POST to rely on. If I can't get any sort of beep after clearing CMOS and confirming all power connections, I guess my first thing to change would be the PSU, then go through and check all the basics (RAM seated correctly, make sure all the parts are plugged in, check cables to make sure they're good, look up incompatible devices, etc etc).
Not sure if that will help or not, but good luck to you, regardless. Worse comes to worse, you could always buy a little cheap-o POST speaker from a computer shop.

Just buy a cheap speaker. Luckily, my case came with a plug in speaker, but for my other boards, one has a speaker onboard and one doesn't have a speaker at all.
Performance-pcs.com 3 bucks

THAT is what I was looking for. Makes life SO much easier. Thanks!

[btw, is there another name for this replacement speaker? I can't find it anywhere else when I search.]

@TheInternal - the problem is that there's no damn D-bracket on any new MSI boards. I called before I made this purchase cuz I loved the D-Bracket on my old one. So annoying...

@Mir96TA, thanks for sharing?

@Flipped Gazelle, yeah - I just want to know what I'd normally search for in order to find that speaker that PCTC2 listed. :)
