Is this normal for LCD's?? (my first one...)

I just recently bought a Samsung 191T+. Great color, awesome black level, no ghosting (for me - tested Call of Duty and UT2K4), no dead pixels, sharp as a tack. BUT....

I originally thought it was my video input (ATI R8500 via DVI)causing a black irregularity at the top of my display, but dicovered today that it appears to be the panel itself. I have what basically is a "non-active" black strip across the top. From right to left, the edge of the "non-active" display area is about 1/10 of an inch and slants down to the left where it becomes about 1/8 of an inch (from lip of screen to edge of "active" display") I confirmed that it was indeed the display and not my video input by turning the display off. I can visibly see a change in the way the display looks from a very dark, but not totally black area (the main active area when display is on) to the strip I see when on, which is completely black when off or on. I thought TFT's where supposed to be edge to edge??? Is this a defect???? Thought I wouldn't have to deal with this type of thing anymore (vs CRT's)!

Sounds like a defect. You did hit the liitle button that adjust the display area right?

Most likely a defect, RMA it. fredtam the adjust button doesn't work when in DVI mode.

Bummer.... What a pain in the rear!!! I should have known better - the first thing I noticed when I received it was a big, fat "Made in Mexico" stamped on the box. :disgust:

I emailed Samsung support to get an official "defect" response - I don't want Dell giving me a hassle - any experience with RMA's with them lately??

Fortunatley, I've only had it for 6 days.

Dell RMA's are great..DO NOT SEND it back to samsung, you will get a refurb. Call dell and they will even send someone to pick it up and then send you a new one. If you say it is bad, Dell will take it back, no matter what samsung says.
