Is this normal? College question...

I'm a freshman. My first semester I took 15 hours. Not too bad. Ended up with an A, 2 Bs, C, and a D. The D prevented me from moving onto my next math class (I was in a developmental class). A was in English (I was in AP in HS, and college class was a joke), B in archeology and anthropology, C in history (really bad teacher), and D in math.

Then I went on break. Worked the first week at my usual job (don't really like it, but it pays...somewhat). Second week I went to my summer job (Great job. Boss is one of my best friends, great people ++ pay!) to set up network equipment.

Now that I'm back in school, I HATE it. I dread waking up in the morning. My professors suck, and I'm reduced to taking a night class which I had to drop because it was 2.5 hours long (Math again.).

Is it normal to hate class this much right now?

I'm a freshman also. Just seems like the usual grind, nothing bad about it. I'd suggest changing classes if you dont like them? or drinking yourself stupid?

generally not a good idea to take breaks. co-ops ect don't count of course.
plenty of time to work after school is over.

Maybe you need to change your major.

I love my major. History professors are great. It's the rest that I hate. And this semester I don't have anyone that I know in any of my classes...🙁

If you dread waking up and going to class, then you probably shouldn't be there 🙂 I loved college. I wish I could go back to that kind of life - limited responsibility!

Enjoy it!

The first couple of years is generally BS in college. Its the last 2 years that are the most important. Anyway, I'm finishing my last semester in engineering right now after 5 years so you haven't seen anything yet 🙂

Well, also know that I hate going to work, but that's because my job is really boring. I applied for a new one today.

Well if your professors suck, then that's the reason. I try my best to pick classes based mostly on how good the professor is. I refuse to take a class with a bad professor unless absolutely necessary for graduation (and in that case, I put it off until a not horrible professor is teaching it). I think the number one indicator of how much I enjoy a semester is how good my professors are.

I hate it without needing to take breaks. I find the classes and the work tedious and boring. It feels like mindless repetitive work that a computer should be doing. The most "challenging" part of it that I've encountered thus far is finding the motivation to invest the time into doing the homework to learn the material.

Halfway through my second year in a 4 year mechanical engineering technology program, and I still feel like what I've learned isn't at all useful in the job market. It probably is, but it just feels to me like, "This is it? People actually pay money to others who know this stuff???" I've got a 3.51 cumulative GPA thus far, but I still feel like I've hardly amasssed any useful knowledge. Hopefully the job market will feel otherwise, as I tend to greatly underestimate and downplay what I can do.

I never have been at the point where I hate college. I'm taking 17-18 credits a semester, so I can hopefully finish in 4.5 years. (Maybe 4) with 2 degrees. I'm going into my second semester...

My advice is... Deal with it.

Sounds like a combination of winter depression and normal freshman mid-year depression. Treat yourself for depression. Take in lots of light, get exercise, talk to people, avoid alcohol, get plenty of sleep, and eat as healthy as you can stand.

Stop concentrating so much on schoolwork. Go out, have fun, enjoy life, and the rest will follow.

And yes go to the gym A LOT. It's the perfect time in your life for it. You work hard in the gym now and you'll be reaping the benefits in 2 years.

Major in Physics - you won't be bored 😉 If you major in Physics, you automatically major in Math.
