Is this normal backlight bleeding for IPS panels?

I have never owned an IPS panel before so I am just not sure if this kind of backlight bleeding on a brand new monitor is considered normal, so I would like your opinion!

This was taken directly in front of the monitor 3ft away, which I believe, takes away the possibility of normal IPS glow.

It is really bothering me, should I just live with it? Or do you think this is reason enough for me to try returning it?

Thank you

That's pretty bad. IPS glow can be bad but that seems like its more than just that going on

Hard to say from a picture, sadly. Did you correct the photo where it is representative of what you see? Is your monitor calibrated so that I know what you see on your monitor are the same?

(sorry, long story short, it is hard to tell from a picture)

Looks pretty bad, but is that a black background you are testing with or gray? Looks like the monitor might have been damaged in transit and is partly separated to have that much bleed, especially the bottom right.

What model display is this?

I have owned many IPS displays, including some cheap ones, and some very nice ones. Non have had that much bleed around the edges. The lower right is especially bad.

I agree with this, and to add to it looks like the power LED is bleeding down through a crack in the bottom right as well.

Is this how it actually looks? Depending on the camera it can make it look much worse than it actually is.

Is it at full brightness? The backlight bleed is always visible at full brightness and can be pretty nasty. But since nobody uses a monitor at full brightness so it's not relevant how much the bleed is at full.

And just so you know IPS glow happens at head on angles as well which is why it sucks so bad. Pretty sure what you are seeing at the bottom right is IPS glow.

That's effing terrible, even the crappiest TN monitors I've had were never that bad. Return it while you can and let us know the model so we may avoid it!

Welcome to the IPS monitor lottery! It seems you lost pretty badly and I would definitely return it and perhaps get another monitor. I would strongly consider something with a VA panel instead.

Yes there are lots of quality VA monitors to choose from now especially if you live in the US. The Lenovo Y27F is a fantastic higher end option for $400 and the BenQ GW2760HS is a good sub $200 option.

ASUS also makes a 32" 1440p 75Hz VA monitor for just $500. Wish I was in the US I'll grab that or the Lenovo. But sorry me I have to live with unbelievably ridiculous prices for high end monitors. :(

Backlight bleed and IPS glow are not the same thing. You can just as easily get backlight bleed on poorly designed/manufactured TN and VA monitors.

You get just as much backlight bleed on TN but not on VA. It's design inherently limits the amount of backlight bleed.
