I'm proud to say.....I live in Utah. :Q

Doesn't surprise me in the least bit. We've got the most f'ed up liquor laws this side of Saudi Arabia.

EDIT: At first, I'm like "I've got to see where this is happening, 'cuz it sounds like a Utah thing"....lo and behold! :)

First off, they should be patted on the back for GETTING drunk in Utah.

It's a real effort with the 3.2% beer, the measured drinks, and the no more than 1 drink per person at a table at one time...

Robert Flowers, who as Utah commissioner of Public Safety oversees the investigations bureau, said his department has never received any complaints about the SIPs program.

SIPs "is an important project," Flowers said. "We are trying to protect people from themselves."

Our alcohol laws are ok. They goverment owns the LCBO which sells anything you want. The nice thing is that the LCBO is run just like any other store, very clean, nice and professional..a pleasure to shop there.

But they should deregulate the sale of alcohol though...

It always boggles my mind going to a state where liquor is regulated. In CA you can go anywhere - 7-11, liquor store (duh), supermarket, wherever, and buy any alcohol you might need. The only downer is no serving after 2AM.

Utah Code Annotated 76-9-701(1) states, "A person is guilty of intoxication if he is under the influence of intoxicating liquor, a controlled substance, or any substance having the property of releasing toxic vapors, to a degree that the person may endanger himself or another, in a public place or in a private place where he unreasonably disturbs another person."
A violation of this law is a class C misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.

You need to read the article again. The guys were not busted.

The bar they were in was under investigation for serving obviously intoxicated persons. That is illegal in most all states. The cab was stopped to investigate whether the patrons were intoxicated so they would have evidence to go after the bar, not to arrest the patrons.

But yea, Utah liquor laws suck.

Welcome to Utah. If you think our liquor laws are funny, you should see our underwear.
