Is this motherboard entirely backwards compatible with the older version?

So it looks like there are two versions of the Asus P5BW-LA that was made for HP/Compaq PCs.
Newer board (Basswood2-UL8E)

Older board (Basswood-UL8E)

It looks like the newer board was made to support the core2duo 4x series. They both use the same P965 chipset. Do you think the newer board would work perfectly fine with all desktop models that uses the older board?

The newer board does not state that it supports Pentium D and Pentium4 processors, but the chipset and socket seems to support it. Do you think it should work fine?
 
It should work with most of the older socket 775 cpus. You can get an idea by checking cpu support on asus website for similar models.
