Is this motherboard compatible with the free ram?

Sorry if this belongs in the motherboard or memory boards, but this is more of a general question.

So, I'm thinking about jumping on this deal for a cheap htpc/word processing/internet machine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138368

BIOSTAR NM70I-847 Intel Celeron 847 1.1GHz 2C/2T BGA1023 Intel NM70 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138368

Comes with a free 8 gig dim: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148661

The board details only list DDR3 1333/1066 as being supported, and I used crucial's site to see if the board was compatible and it said that it ain't.

So, is there something I'm missing? Is this just CYA on the manufacturers' parts & it will work, or is Newegg selling a bundle that doesn't work together?

ram will just run slower, ram manufacturers usually have several speed profiles, motherboard will just pick the fastest supported.

should work fine.

I think that RAM is DDR3-1600, at 1.35V. I don't know if that board supports 1.35V. If it does, you can use it. Or, if that RAM is tolerant of 1.5v (which it most likely is), then you can use it too, just clock it slower. RAM can generally always be downclocked, but not always downvolted, or overvolted.

Edit: Did you read the reviews? Hope that you don't use Linux.

Just be aware that its only one free DIMM. The 847 supports dual channel operation, so there will be a small performance penalty for using only one DIMM.

All DDR3 RAM should be able to operate at 1.5v, so there should be no problems.

Yes it should work, and I doubt you'll ever notice single channel memory performance issues with the CPU and IGP being the primary bottlenecks.

Thanks guys, I ended up getting it. What's a good case to get with it? Low noise would be better than space savings.

Something like the SG05 would be good, it has a huge slow fan to push air through the case. It is a little pricey, but it does come with a Silverstone (read: good) PSU.
