Is this microstutter or something else?

Just took delivery of my first ever multi-gpu setup: 2x6950s (MSI Twin Frozr IIIs which flashed to 6970s without incident).

At first, framerates seemed pretty nice coming from my 5870, but now I'm worried I might be sensitive to microstutter. In most games, there seems to be a momentary stutter regularly every second when vsync is enabled:

I took some FPS measurements of an identical scene in CoD4 with and without crossfire

Does this look characteristic of multi-GPU microstuttering or could it be something else?

I suppose the solution would be to get rid of vsync and suffer with screentearing?

yep, that's microstutter.

turning off vsync is one option. you can also try to force alternative forms of crossfire (scissors mode, supertile) with radeonpro. assuming that they even work with your game, you should see some reduction in microstuttering.

I think that is something else, although multi gpu microstuttering is similar. The reason why I say that it is something else is that vsync should alleviate the problem some not make it pronounced
