Well, so I'm waiting for my i8600 to get here on tuesday and I want to upgrade the memory.
I have 2 x 256mn memory from dell and i just want to add another 512mb.
Should I get 2 x 256mb or can I just get 1 x 512mb stick?

I'm thinking about getting This from newegg. Will this be compatible with my i8600?

Can you guys recommend me any other brand if this one is not too good? or overpriced??
And oh, do you guys think I should upgrade the memory or just replace the hard drive with the famous hitachi travelstar hard drive??

Thanks a lot guys!!!

Yes that memory chip is compatible. Ordered the same model at last weeks 30% off, not the $750 off. Ordered Sunday 9:45 p.m., received it Friday 10:54 a.m.

There are only 2 slots available in the notebook. I'd get 1 stick of 512mb now & get another 512mb later to get 1 GB total.

Leave 1 stick of 256mb and then use the 512mb to get 768 mb for now. That's exactly what I plan to do to get 1 GB later on.

Ah, I see. I thought there was 4 slots available.
In that case I'm gonna get the 512mb stick for the lappy.

Anyone has anything else to add? any other brand that I should consider? Or should I Just get that model? What about the hard drive?? Should I get it?

Thanks again all...

I plan to do the exact same thing. Add a 512 stick, sell the 256 and then eventually add another 512. As far as the hard drive goes, all I've used is the Hitachi and I'm glad I got it. Great performance.

Thanks zodder. I am planning to do the same thing. Get 2 x 512mb sticks and sell the 256s.
I will also the the hitachi hdd. Did you use ghost or similar software to copy your old hdd to the new one or did you do clean install with the new hdd?

That's why I want to get both the ram and the hitachi :)
I got convinced to get the drive. Can anyone anser my question about how to transfer the contents from the old hdd to the new one? or should I just clean install xp on the new drive??

Thanks again all!!!
