Is this mechanic an idiot?

My bro drove a 98 Ford Escort, which the engine recently died. Head gasket blew along with the valves and pistons. The mechanic said that this happened due to my brother using low octane gas (87). I told my dad and bro that the mechanic was a moron, and it happened due to poor maintance.

The car had over 100,000 miles and i can only remember 8-10 oil changes. 😕

Oh well, not my car.

Ford escorts don't have high-compression engines, so the money is wasted on high-octane gas. That's not what caused it.

unless you have a REAL performance vehicle that requires a better explotion (such as a turbo powered car, high compression engine, supercharged, or high performance such as a cobra, z06, etc.) high octane gas is a waste and using low octane will not do sh1t to your car...hell i even ran low octane in my turbo 240sx a couple times and it did alright...

that mechanic is a jacka$$ and you need a new one...i have no idea why he would even suggest this...

engine prolly blew because he didnt keep proper maintence and he drove it really hard. if he is dumb enough to only change the oil every 5-10k mi...he needs to start using synthetics...anywho...sell the car/part it out and get a different car....going to be way to expensive to put a new engine into it

just my 2cent

Your mechanic is a moron. So is your brother.

I suggest disowning him and finding a new mechanic. 😛

I have two ford escorts.

1) 1991 Escort LX 2dr 5sp hatchback .... has 195,000 miles on it. Best car ever. Surprisingly zippy and responsive. $21.00 to fill the tank.
2) 1996 Escort LX 4dr 5sp hatchback .... has 89,000 miles on it. Not a bad car. Not as good as the 91, but gets me from A to B cheaply. $24.00 to fill the tank.

The 91 had to have the timing belt and water pump replaced once about 90k miles ago. the timing belt went and did something to screw up the water pump. Besides that... i have not put another dime into either of these cars except upgraded stereos and the normal maintenience. The b/f keeps the oil changed reguarly, and changes belts and filters when needed.

We dont use special gas in them. I would find a new mechanic. And smack your brother.

🙂
