We received a medical bill in saying that it hasn't been paid and is about to go into collection. This is my first time seeing it, and something looks fishy. It says to go pay at thedoctorbill.com, but the site just does not seem legitimate to me. I'm wondering if this is some kind of scam?

Hospitals have staff that handle accounting matters. This really isn't as complicated issue as you think it is.

It's legit but you should be careful and insulate yourself from them.
PayPal me the money as a gift and I will pay them for you. That way they can't get at you in the future.

It's not unusual to miss a bill from a hospital stay. I would contact the hospital and/or try to find out who sent the bill and if they are legit before I would pay the bill.
