Is this legal?

have any of you noticed sometimes there are people driving around at night in your neighborhood and they stop at every mailbox? i'm assuming they're putting some mail.

UPDATE: i just went outside and checked my mailbox. there was noting inside but they put in some newspaper on the bottom shelf. is that legal?

I've gotten pretty good at identifying which letters contain birthday cards (they have the highest chance of containing cash).

Technically not legal but people do it anyway. Usually doesn't amount to anything unless someone takes offense and calls the police

no...mail tampering. it is also illegal for a private individual to place ANYTHING in a private mailbox that is not their own

Putting anything in a mail box without valid postage is illegal.

Punishment is a flogging for the first offence. 2nd offence is lynching.

i'm not sure what they did; if they put any mail or just looking inside people's mailboxes. i'll go outside right now and see whether they put any mail.

Do you have a reference?
I'm curious myself. I just don't think there are any laws that makes it illegal to open someone else's mailbox.
It's definitely inappropriate invading someones privacy.
Opening someone's mail is definitely illegal.

LOL did your A key get destroyed or something?

Thats must be a pain in the ass.

People will take out the new credit card you just got and use it. The "call from your home phone to activate the card" security is bogus. They'll activate the card for whoever calls up from whatever phone number.

My friend paint ball'ed someone for that...

He had noticed the same car doing rounds up and down his street...apparently a group of guys was stealing checks out of peoples mailbox. MY friend called the cops and the cops said they'd look it but were not going to commit a undercover car to babysitting mailboxes.

So one night my friend set up a waited and let loose on the guy and the car when he open his mailbox (my friend also owns/owned several real guns...one of which was a semi-automatic rifle (legal at the time)).

My friend got them with like twenty paint balls...he then called the cops and reported the car, apparently the car got pulled over 15 minutes later on the description.
