Howdy all!

My neighbor was recently told that he had to take down kerry/edwards sign, reason being he lives on a non profit organizations campus

That seems like hes getting jacked out of a few rights if you ask me.

Not for profit agencies cannot show any partisanship otherwise they can have their tax exemption status removed. Doesn't sound unfair to me.

Unless he owns the property he doesn't have any say. If the non-profit owns the house they can tell him what do with it including what color to paint it.

Yep .. unless you own the property, the rights don't belong to you .. they belong to the landowner.

Even if he owns the property, he might not be able to put a political sign out. Our subdivision says in the covenants and restrictions that no signs (except for sale/rent signs of a certain size) can be placed anywhere on any lot, and it is enforced.

Time to move.

I can't imagine how completely angry I would become if these subdivision/home owner association whack jobs tried to imflict themselves on me. You'd almost certainly have front page news from whatever I did to them in reataliation for their worthless existence.

Yes, he has the right to free speech. That doesn't mean he's got the right to make that speech wherever and however he choses.

As long as they made Everyone take down their signs and didn't make only people with certain signs take them down, then it's probably fine. Like the other posters said, if it's not his property, he doesn't get much say.

Seriously. I'd never move into one of those places.

Nobody's forcing you to live in a subdivision.

If you don't like their rules you certainly don't have to live there. There are plenty of other places to live.

WTF?

They are simply people who want to live in a neighborhood with certain standards. Nobody is forcing you to live there.

That what I want to do. I want the neighborhood to live up to MY standards. I don't want a bunch of goobers telling me what to do. Fortunately, as of next Friday, I will own everything on the road. And, for 500 yards in either direction, everything on my side of the adjacent roads :)
