My school is selling G4 Ipods for $250. If i buy one then sell it on ebay for 300, is that legal?

if your report the gain on your taxes it is.


what would be illegal about it? who would catch you anyways?

i don't see why it would be illegal, its not a student edition ipod like they do with software.

Sell it for as much as you want. Just asked about a similar situation on the forums. Sounds as though as long as your gains are under $500 bucks, you don't have to report anything.

Go for it!

Find out if there is an implicit buyer agreement for the school deal. Read all the fine print.

but back to the question.......how the fvck would anyone ever find out.....i doubt your school employs ppl to seek out students who resell ipods....

i sold final cut pro on ebay after buying it at my bookstore (didnt say NFR or student anywhere).. i bought all they had... made like $600 on that :p

When I was in college microsoft had a thing where if you came and listened to a seminar they gave you a free copy of Visual Studio 6. People went just to get the software and sell it on Ebay. When the school found out, the next time they made everyone register for the seminar and wrote the serial numbers all down. If your copy made it on to ebay there was 'disciplinary actions.'

So just make sure your school doens't have an existing policy against reselling these iPods.
