Is this Kingston Hyperx chip good for overclocking?

Zebo, how do you know that the Kingston 512mb hyperx is CH-5? I thought that CH-5 was discontinued. I actually have a stick of CH5 and it does suck indeed. It doesn't like high volts either and doesn't go past 215mhz fsb. but anyway, how do u know that stuff is ch5?

I know cause I've read it, a lot. All KHX(A), revs were made from CH-5..The non A was BH-5 but they continuue to make CH for about a year afterward.

Ok even though it is cheap it ain't worth the money for something that won't overclock.

Zebo, what do you recommend? I want 1gb of ram total on my abit nf7-s v2.0 and i'd prefer to have cpc on and dual channel.

i currently have 1 stick of 512mb ch5 as i mentioned that i'm probably going to sell.

i don't want to spend a ton of money, so the cheaper the better.

thanks

Best is ballistix or TCCD right now, but you're looking for cheap and best... that is Crucial8T using miron/crucial modules granted not binned like expensive OCZ EB and Ballistix but they hit 250Mhz at 3-3-3 probable, cheaper than dirt, are backed by Crucial the most compatable RAM in the world, and are guranteed to work for life by a company that will be around forever.

No I don't have the S2, I have the NF7-s Version 2.0. It is supposedly one of the better nf2 boards out there.

anyway, that crucial stuff is cas 3.0 and is not dual channel. WIll it work with CPC on, or am I just better off getting the pqi?

I have 2 KHX 512MB chips (didn't come in a dual channel kit) which have not really been stron OC'ers. The one chip will do 220Mhz but the other won't. I currently am running my P4 2.8 at 235 FSB and have to run my memory at 5:4 because no amount of voltage or timing changes will get this memory to run at 235Mhz (DDR470).

I posted at the Dslreports.com forums in the oc section as well and folks there seem to think otherwise, but I think it might have been an exception. It seems that generally CH-5 is not that great, especially when you use double sided chips with cpc on.

Take a look at my post there: http://www.dslreports.com/foru...ark,11597019~mode=flat

So anyway guys, which memory should I go for? How is this crucial zelo? What's my best bet?

I've already answered above IMO what the best bet is.

1. PQI w TCCD
2. Ballistix
3. Crucial 8t

Zebo you're right you did. Do you think I could run these modules with CPC on? (1T command rate)

Also if I wanted to run two 512mb modules in dual channel, do I have to buy a dual channel kit, or can I just buy two of the same sticks singly?

BTW, Zebo, I noticed the hike in memory prices as well. I wanted to buy Patriot 2325 pc3200 it was like $85 and now it is $110. Crucial is now $95 :(

What was the price of the pqi tccd?

Yeah i've read some reviews on the PQI turbo series RAM. They're rated very very high. I guess they compare to the Ballistix. I went to Fry's yesterday and picked up a 1gb kit but 2.5 CAS. We'll see if they OC as well as the CAS2 turbos.

Someone mentioned to me that the TCCD works well on Athlon64 platforms and Intel platoforms, but might not work so well on AthlonXP. Is this true?

Kingston KHX3200/512

i ordered some and it is the non A version. People are saying these are BH-5s. now there is a rebate so they are dirt cheap. They reportedly hit 250MHz no problem. I won't know until my new cpu arrives.
