Is this just frigging retarded??? Or is it just me?

I just found out today that every holiday party, birthday party, and any special event is not going to be allowed this year in my daughters second grade class because they have a child that is a Jehovah's Witness in their class. Now I don't consider myself religious at all, but god damn, what is the world coming to when you when you can't celebrate Thanksgiving/Christmas/etc. Hell, even the end-of-the-school-year party is officially canceled unless this one individual OK's it.

Needless to say, tomorrow I'm heading in to talk with the principal to try and get her changed to a different class.

Oh yeah, and I'm still clogged.

just you me thinks, as this sort of thing has been happening for quite some time now. back in middle school through high school, we had to call it "winter break" & "spring break 😉" instead of x-mas & easter.

All the Jehovah's Witnesses I know are pretty cool about that stuff....I might be having a Christmas party but if they're there they are just at a "party", not a themed party so that they can still attend and not be social outcasts.

If she doesn't like it, sit her in the corner by herself. Don't ruin it for the rest of the class.
I guess that's one benefit of a rural elementary school. My younger sister had a Jehova's witness in her class one year, he would go somewhere else for any celebrations like that.

I have a feeling it's not the student that's against the little parties.
The kids barely know what's going on.

That is what I am thinking as well. It is only second grade. Does she fully understand her religion and is she able to make decisions based on it?

If you don't like it, don't participate. Just don't put the kabosh on it for everyone else. Kiddie parties are the highlight of the school child's day, for cryin' out loud.

I had a situation back in the not so distant day(8 years ago maybe) and they just sent the girl to the library. Stupid religion not wanting to celebrate Christmas 😀

my mom was a 2nd grade teacher, and she once had a girl in her class who was JW...her mom would take her out of school on those days.

One of my bestfriends in Elementary School was a JW. When we would have Halloween dances, or birthday parties, he would sit in the back of the class and study, or even go to the library and he could whatever the crap he wanted...

'Punishing' everyone else because of one kids beliefs is ridiculous.
