Is this just a problem with my pc or all pcs with Vista?

I can't count all the programs that will not run when I click on the icon or from the start>programs menu unless I right-click and select run as administrator.

i turned off UAC so i dont have that problem. yeah, i know its the best thing about vista etc...

not to me. i never had any security / virus problems with xp or 2k so im not worried about it.

Was this a serious question you wanted an answer to?

I currently have two apps that run like this and both leverage kernel mode drivers (network monitor and a proprietary app).

I have ~30 other apps on the system not counting all the builtin stuff.

Did you do an upgrade or clean install of Vista? (e.g. are these programs carried forward from your XP install, or are they clean installs). I'm defiantely not having that issue, UAC barely pops up now that the machine is configured.

It is the upgrade version but I did the clean install trick

Friends don't let friends run crappy operating systems like Windows Vista.

Woops 😛

I'm glad I didn't get the Vista Crap Edition. Business Edition has been working very well for me though 😉

I'm in the boat with most here, I have no Admin prompts except for Speedfan Monitor application.

Yep, things like this will very likely need to run as admin until app developers get a feel for how to write things in Vista. Anything that needs to touch a driver (some sort of mobo specific one in this case) or other kernel mode component will get blocked by UAC just the way you would want it to.

If it's an application that doesn't or shouldn't be touching kernel mode and it won't run without admin then it is indeed a crappy, and possibly dangerous app.
