is wearing all black (black tie, shirt, pants, coat) acceptable for a funeral?

Yes, but because he is close family, wear a suit instead.

That setup is ok for going to a friend's funeral, but not really close family. 99.99999% of the other guys closely related will be in suits.

Nothing complicated or expensive, but you need a dress coat.

I agree with Monel. Just wear a nice suit to his funeral. Wearing all black to you grandfathers funeral will only make you look like a misfit from the J. Geils Band.

Or someone named Skibane, who has three teeth and is at the funeral with a cooler of Miller Lite.

Be sure to wear shoes too, or people will look at you funny.

I'd suggest wearing a lighter shirt.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Cowboy boots, Levi's and a decent button down shirt works for me. If it's cool out I will wear a jacket or coat.

Wear a white shirt otherwise you'll just look odd.

Especially since your blacks probably won't match 100% and it's a fashion faux pas to wear mismatched blacks.
