there are usually cops in the front of my school catching speeders. the other day when i was at school, there were cops at the front of my school next to a main road looking to catch speeders-they usually catch a lot per day. well, a couple of "clever" senior students thought itll be funny to counteract the cops. they drew up a huge sign that read on it "Slow down! Police!" in big red letters. the cops ended up catching almost none or actually no speeders that day because those kids were holding up that sign and all the approaching cars slowed down because they could see the sign from far away. the cops ended up taking the seniors away, i dont know what happen to them or anything. but i was wondering if its illegal, like serious enough to be prosecuted for.

They'll likely be sentenced to a five year stretch in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

i'm pretty sure it is illegal--- not sure why though. i've also heard its illegal to flash yoru lights at oncomming traffic to warn them of cop ahead.

though, the seniors will probably get nothing more than a warning.

They'll probably browbeat them with barely relevant charges such as "creating a nuisance" or "demonstarting without a permit" if they were on the sidewalk or street.
Cops hate it when you blow their "cover".
I wonder if they were standing on someone's lawn ( who they knew / had permission from) if they would have any justification?

Yesterday while driving up to Oroville, CA, I saw a Butte County sign that had had the "E" painted out... so it says "Butt" County. It seems that kids will do the same things that other kids did.... we did the same thing when I was in High School <picture Beavis & Butthead standing there saying"{snerK} It says BUTT{snerk}"

what if you wrote
"Please slow down, it might be your unlucky day"

I think it would be better to get a caution pig X-ing sign put up.

Or "Please slow down today, you can speed and run down the kiddies tomorrow" ?

These people are speeding in a school zone, perhaps they should be taught not to speed by geting a ticket?

whoops...that reminds me. Last week I was driving to work in the morning (4:45AM) and passed a speed trap. Feeling helpful, I flashed the next car I saw to warn him...which turned out to be a cop. Luckily I didn't get pulled over.

Actually, if people were slowing down in the school zone, then IMO, they were doing a GOOD thing holding up the sign. But the police were just upset because they had nothing to do all day anymore.

A sign that SHOULDN'T piss of the police (which is quite a serious offense, just not in a court of law, if you get my meaning) should be "SLOW DOWN, SCHOOL ZONE." And then the police still have a fair chance of "hunting down their game," should drivers still choose to ignore the kids holding up the sign.

I used to work for the city court in tucson,az and to my knowledge it wasn't illegal. Some cops didnt mind it seeing as how your helping them do their job, which when there sitting there is to slow down traffic most of the time.
The only reason flashing lights is frowned upon is cause it became a problem a while back with the urban legend of gangs using that as a provoking tool...but its still not illegal...its a unviersal sign of acknoledging another driver...

This thread topic generated a rather funny thought. Any of you seen those large electronic signs that are attached to a speed gun that show how fast you are driving? They should put up one of those with the top ten high scores listed. :D

How is holding a sign illegal? Last I checked it wasn't illegal to do something like that in this country...it's called freedom of speech...

The reason why you're not allowed to flash your brights is cause its a hazard or something...but that's all just an excuse because you'd never be pulled over for doing that to warn someone of an accident up front...

That's the exact same thought that came to my mind. They're helping to ensure that the segment of the driving public that statistically causes the most accidents and fatalities is merely leaving school safely.
