Shotgunning is the only thing I consider is hunting, unless your hunting moose or bear.

At 500 yards the bullet has dropped 42", how much it will drop at 950 yards i don't know but 90-100 inches which is 8 feet. Pretty chancy shot considering the holdover needed. What if he wounded the animal? What chance would they have of tracking and collecting the animal from that far away. That is over half a mile away "as the crow flies".

The drop was 220+ inches at 950 yards. That's what it said at the beginning of the vid.

Over 18' of holdover, a very chancy shot then.

The bullet reaches the deer before the sound of the gun does. Very cool.

Wouldn't that happen at any range?

Obviously, but it's more impressive to observe over such a long distance.

According to my calculations sound travels about 1,100 fps, which is much slower than a 338.

That must've been a complex calculation, thanks Albert. :)

Whatever it is, it was a damn nice shot. 950yards is pretty chancy considering a slight wind, the insane drop that the bullet takes, probably on the order of several feet, etc.

No, it was probably a fairly simple calculation for most but an envelope pushing test for me.

to some yes, but others make these types of shot often - think of snipers, long distance shooters, etc. to some this may be even considered an easy shot. people making this shot, i would assume, shoot so much that the weapon becomes and extension of the body.

and i believe that in the world of the long distance shooters, 1000yds is rather common.
