Is this how itunes is supposed to work? Seems like a ripoff

My girlfriend has an ipod touch that has some applications on it that cost a decent amount of money. I'm borrowing it and want to add my own free / pay apps on the ipod. I used her account to authorize the computer to keep things simple.

The problem is that it's making me synchronize my computer first before putting any of my apps on there. If I try to sync, it tried to remove her apps, including the ones she has paid for. How the hell do you not lose the applications that are already on there and still add my own applications?

It's incredibly confusing, unnecessarily so. If I don't click the Sync Applications button on the ipod tab of itunes, then I can't add any of my applications. They just sit there. How can I leave her apps and just add my own?

-post in the right section
-iTunes doesn't allow this

You may be able to find a 3rd party progran for this, but I've only found ones for music and video transfer without iTunes.

Answer : iTunes/Apple are charging the hipster tax. And yes, iTunes is trash. The iPod itself is pretty nice though, I just wish it wasn't as much of a bitch to transfer apps/music/content to and from the damned things.

iTunes is terrible. People use it cus they are stuck using it. Apple locks down all their software/hardware to force people to use their products the way Apple wants you to use them, not the way you want to.

This is how apple operates.

People blast Apple for it for itunes/ipod,etc... but LOVE apple for it when it comes to imacs and such.

wishy washy fans.

I don't think you can put one account's apps on an iPod that don't belong to that account. What's to stop one person buying an app and then give it to all her friends?

That's not what the situation is at all. It's 1 ipod linked to 1 account that's connecting to two computers. Say I had a desktop and laptop that I wanted to use the ipod touch with. Why the hell should all my applications be removed when switching from one computer to the other?

Don't have an iTouch but the iPhone allows you to buy/download apps directly without iTunes.

Do you not have app store access from the iTouch?

It can only be synced to one computer at a time.

You can download apps using the App Store app ON the iPod Touch. They will be put onto her computer when she syncs it later.

What's so hard about it? You plug it in and it syncs.

As for the OP, you can have two accounts on the same computer/ipod and switch back and have all apps on the phone. I do this with a Canadian iTunes account as well as an American account.

but I thought you're using her account, so how then would you use your apps if they are not tied to her account?

I'm not trying to transfer over existing apps, I'm trying to download/buy new apps to add to the ipod. I don't have any existing apps.

This really makes no sense. If I have 2 computers, I'd want to add applications to it from either one.

the ipod touch can only have one account "active" at a time, so it'll either be hers or yours. also, dont worry about losing your paid apps if you have her sync with your computer. you always can download paid apps again for free (absolutely no charge, even if the app gets updated).

Seeing how the Zune HD has almost no apps, this would definitely solve his problem with multiple PC's and multiple apps. You won't have apps when they don't exist in the first place.

*waits for somebody to chime in about how the Zune HD has 8+ apps*

Exactly. Take away the apps and the Zune HD is a much better mp3 player.
