That looks like a pretty good buy. I have the Canon Powershot S40 (4 megapixel) which is a very similar but 2 year older model. The S70 appears to be in the same body with a few different buttons.

IMO, 7 megapixels is overkill for a high quality point and shoot type camera. The Canon Powershot S series have gotten excellent reviews and I really like mine. But I used it for vacation and family photo's etc... 4 megapixels will let you print pictures up to 11x14 in size, which is probably as big as anyone would want with a point and shoot type camera. I would want a 6 or 7 mp camera to be a SLR type camera with a hot shoe for flash, and changable lenses because if you are going for photo's with that kind of resolution, you'll probably want a more professional type camera.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with the S70 for a easy to use, high quality family camera. However, you might be able to save some $$ if you got a Canon Powershot with 5 or 6 mp resolution and it will still be plenty. The only reason 4 mp wouldn't be enough is if you shot a picture, but after the fact wanted to blow up a portion of it and print it at 8x10 or 11x14 - certainly conceivable.

The advantage of the Canon S series is they are relatively compact for a nice quality digicam. I used to haul my Canon EOS Elan on trips and it is big although not as heavy as some SLR's with a 35-105 zoom. I like the Canon Powershot S series because I can fit it easily in a fanny pack pouch and don't mind taking it to theme parks like Disney World/Land or Kings Dominion. Bigger camera's tend to add to the burden.

I bought the s60 in August (unfortunately, a few weeks before the s70 came out)- it is an absolutely incredible camera! I did a ton of research on it- read all the reviews, and the prictures are terrific. I regret not being able to nab the s70, but that's the way things go. Took it to Hawaii with 2 512 mb CF cards, and landed up taking so many pictures I had to burn a cd while I was there to reuse a card. 2 suggestions - buy extra batteries - there is a company called homenext (I think that was the name- something like that anyway) on Ebay- the NB-2LH batteries were really cheap (around $15 for 2 inc. shipping) and work great. Great price too- don't hesitate
