Is this Hepa Air Purifier any good?

I'd recommend the Ionic Breeze. There's no need to buy filters. You just wipe with water and put it right back in. After buying two (2nd at half price and a free bathroom thing), I just had to buy an additional two. It's kinda pricey - but it's worth it... I've been using IB for two years now. It's from Sharper Image... and Circuit City has 'em too.

Ugh.. No...

Ionic Breezes are garbage. I'm surprised they're still around. They're being investigated by the FTC for false claims.

Ok, I take that back.. they are better than nothing... barely. But you absolutely can NOT compare them to a true 0.3 micron @ 99.97% HEPA filter.

Yes, that filter looks pretty good, at least spec wize. No idea on reliability etc. 5 year warranty seems pretty good.

lol, they very well may be.

Try and find some consumer reviews? Also, look around and see if there are any other models available that are a little more expensive but obviously better(better specs, longer warranty, etc), and compare prices on their replacement filters. That's where the real cost is. If Brand A has an initial cost of 120$ but their replacement filters are 40$, it's probably worth it to invest in brand B that has an initial cost of 160$ but replacement filters can be had for 15$... especially if they have a longer warranty or filter more air.

Check eBay for replacement filters. Then figure out how much each different unit will cost to own each year.

Most HEPA air purifiers will have a pre-filter. However, something you can do to greatly extend the life of a HEPA filter is to add a pre-pre filter to the outside of the unit. This is especially true if you live in an dusty environment. A popular thing to do is to use furnace filters, cut up and glued onto the outside with hot glue or silicone(something that seals, but still peels off easily).

<-- likes sterile environments 😉
