I once got an old Rear projection television(only with svideo), and hate it after a while because the white was becoming yellow( and my corners were getting very dark)

Are these hdtv rear projection also have the same problem?

I dont wanna go for DLP,Plasma or LCD.they are kinda more expensive.

The HDTV RPTV's are not like the old crappy rear projection TV's from years ago. They do have their drawbacks as do all types of TV's. Check out http://www.avsforum.com. Do a search for 46F500 and I'm sure you'll find some good info.

That's from running a CRT based TV at full blast contast.

DLP, LCD and D-ILA do not suffer from this.

I have a 4 year old 65" mits diamond HDTV that still looks better than any CRT display out there - because I take care of it.

That said, I wouldn't buy a CRT based HDTV these days. The other technologies are just so much better and the price is only coming down. But if you can't swing it then mits or hitachi rear projection are simply the best. Just turn that contrast down below 50% and you'll be fine...you don't need it to blind the room.

-edit- if you are looking see if you can swing a 55", 46 is pretty small to enjoy the glory of HD and the difference is minimal.

30" LCDs are already $1k! I paid that much for my 30" CRT a few years ago.

In a few years I expect CRT RPTVs to be gone.

You can get an InFocus 4805 DLP front projector with a 72" screen for $999 after coupon ($1199 reg) at Costco. A great buy in my opinion if you have the room, and adequate light control for that room.

I too would not go for a CRT based projection nowadays considereing there are superior technologies like DLP, LCoS and LCD projection in terms of serviceability, and picture quality.
