Just got a new Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 7200rpm 45GB today.

Read Max - 32940 kps
Read Min - 20417 kps
Read Avg - 28187 kps

Are these any good?? This is the first time I've run HDtach

FYI, you can use ALT + Print Screen to just capture the window in the foreground.

Just curious... is there any reason why my 15 gig DM+45 would have an access time around 18 ms on a CUSL2?

LostHiWay:
looks good

might be your acoustic settings. my maxtor diamond max 7200rpm felt sluggish compared to my old quantum 7200rpm drive, and when i used hdtach i got seek times of ~20ms. i couldn't think of what was wrong...then it hit me, i remembered that on some drives you can change the "noise level" by basically slowing down the seeking. you can get the utility to change these settings from the maxtor website...after i set it to full performance the seek times are in the 12-13ms range

ledzepp98, wow, I wasn't aware that the acoustic settings would degrade performace that much. I'll look into it and see if I can get the performance to where it should be. Thanks.

Hmmm...I haven't touched my settings for noise (still at factory default) and I get in the 12-13ms range...

LostHIWay scores look right compared to mine with advanced size check, However the burst speed seems low as mine does in the high 80's and my 15gig does in the mid 70's...Are you running this on an ata66 controller. I have an ata100 controller. Shouldn't make a performance issue since the average sppeds are below ata33 specs.

my version of HDTach(ver 2.61) only shows burst readings up to 80mbps.
