They ran Linux, and some still can. They currently run VxWorks.

I doubt the SSD controllers run Linux. It would not make any sense. Routers took advantage of the basic FOSS Unix software, and had no need of an RTOS. An SSD controller is going to need an RTOS, if it runs one, but it seems like it would be better to just not run an OS at all.
 
Maybe he is getting confused by the fact that OCZ bootable tools are based on Linux 😕
