Said something about "taking the DQ".

Rules say you HAVE to surface, something like 15 or 20 meters in. If you stay under past that line you're DQ'd because underwater is faster. Guy was just being an asshole, probably knew he couldn't win legit, so did that instead.

BTW, he was only under for like 25 seconds. There wasn't a guy in that pool that couldn't have done the same if he wanted to.

Had to swim the length of an olympic-size pool underwater for my NAUI cert back in the 80's. I wasn't even in that great a shape, and I made it.

I remember it being half Olympic length. 25m instead of 50m

Can't cheat at something that is not a sport.

What about a math test? It's not a sport, but you sure as hell can cheat on it.

What about a diet? A diet isn't a sport yet you can easily cheat on it.

What about marriage? Not a sport yet spouses cheat all too much.

Oh quiet, you. That's the best trolling he's got... and you gotta come in here and make him feel all bad by pointing out what a weak attempt it was... when we can ALL clearly see it.

It's like walking into a room an pointing out the kid with Down's syndrome. We already know who he is. Pointing him out is just gonna hurt his feelings.

Uncool, man. Uncool.

You have 15 meters / yards (based on pool size) to surface. The 2nd blue marker on the lane line is the 15 meter mark that you have to break surface before passing.

The guy probably knew it was a DQ and didn't care I would guess.

"Swimming is not a sport. Swimming is a way to keep from drowning." George Carlin.

FWIW - I have this debate at least once a week with a coworker of mine. He was a swimmer in college and it pisses him off to hear that swimming is not a sport. Since I like pissing him off (in a friendly kind of way), I take any and every opportunity to goad him into the argument.

Do not know about the length of an Olympic pool; but in my college years; had no problems doing 4 laps underwater in a normal inground pool.

Was still able to get close to 3 laps when pushing 40

Olympic is long course so 50 meters.

Short course is 25 either meters or yards.
