Hi (my first post, yay!)

I'm a OC newbie in training, and I'm planning on getting a 3600+ brisbane with a Biostar TF7050-M2 board, and overclocking it to ~3ghz. Is this ram any good for me?

OCZ (OCZ2P800R22GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 2GB (2x1024MB) Platinum Revision 2 XTC Dual Channel Kit

I read everywhere that "D9" chips are the way to go, but I don't really know the difference, and I'm pretty sure this one is not D9 (according to this).

Any help would be appreciated.

That RAM will work fine for overclocking an X2 3600, as would just about any PC6400. Oh, and welcome to anandtech.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

So it doesn't matter even if I get the cheapest PC6400, it won't affect the level to which I can push the 3600+?

No, not as long as it's PC6400. The 3600 runs the RAM with a slight divider, anyway, since it uses a 9.5x multiplier. Here's a link for you: Brisbane & Windsor memory speeds. Although that page doesn't have your processor on it, it will run the RAM at roughly the same reduced speeds as the 4000, since your processor has a 9.5x multiplier.

Also, K8s are not starved for memory bandwidth, so overclocking the RAM gets you very little anyway. Use a divider and crank that chip up as high as it will go.

OK, thanks for the replies guys.

Once I get all the parts and finish reading all the guides, I'll be posting my OC results here and hope to get some feedback.
