Is this game played at all companies?

Around my work, upper management had asked for a schedule for a project. One was given, then they asked for a super optomistic "If everything went perfectly" schedule, then they trimmed a month off of that, told everyone that they were responsible to be held to that schedule. Now that stuff is really getting busy everyone seems to be playing the game of "push someone else infront of the train so I don't look bad." As a result, I keep getting alot of crap dumped on me (because I'm the lower guy), like procedures that aren't correct. Documents that were done half assed and I have to fix them. Boards that need reworking two or three times because we didn't have time to do it right the first time. This makes me look bad because I'm the one that happens to LOOK like the bottleneck.

...if I thought I could find another job in the next two months I'd be out of this place.

We used to have one asshat manager who tried to start rounds of that. I guess the lesson to learn from it is to give the longest estimate you think they'll accept, so even when they trim it there's still time 😛

Heh, the upper management here have never stayed at a company more than 5 years. They've been around for four, and the IPO is planned in 10 months. Any guess on thier stratagy?
