I did a bit more of a search. My company is a MS Solutions provider, so I'm a bit more used to some of the licensing mumbo jumbo. As best I can tell, it's not a US part number. It appears to be the International English version, media only. For larger customers that buy just licenses, but get a reduced price.. well they still need some media here and there. It looks like the price is just for media only, not actually a license to use it.

Weird. MS would/will have a twinkie over it.

Hey Chefresource have you been reading the previous posts? It is actually a language pack according to the Microsoft Product codes. This sucks. I am thinking of cancelling before they ship it to me.

Yes, I have been reading the previous posts and it's not a language pack. I deal with their licensing stuff a lot, I know how to read it. Their SW comes in English, French, etc.. and starting more recently in Multilanguage. It's not a language pack upgrade.

It's a media-only kit for sites with MS licensing agreements. If your company has 5000 desktops, you don't buy 5000 retail boxes. You get a few media kits, and 5000 licenses only, at a reduced cost.

I just sent my cancel letter. I hope they get it before they ship the damn thing. What a pain in the ass. Good luck to those that get it. I doubt tho a license would only be 25 bucks, specially for a corporation. Corps are bread and butter for msft. I think it is a cd for multilanguage support. Good luck!

You what else is interesting, I was poking around the web site and I found this item for the same price. It seems like the academic version, media only? Does anyone know anything about this part number? It's the same price as the other item. Interesting...

I do licensing too with MS Solutions products. This is media only. Multilanguage, should be like 4 CDs that allow W2K install in a couple languages and a set of boot floppies. I just ordered the same set from Software Spectrum for the same price and got it last week. If you order you'll still need the product license.

cool! i'm a student, and the 'EDU' would seem to imply academic version, yes. and 'license' is in the title. well, onvia still seems like a decent operation, i think i'll order one and try it out.

Guys, that is just the multilanguage upgrade CD for Win2K. It's not the Win2K upgrade. Check this
web site for the Microsoft product codes.

see the one from the link provided by johnwoo.
the title says ........ - 1 user - ........

this $24.6's title says ...................
doesn't mention how many users.

the product title is not so clear, and the desciption doesn't say it's media only without license, but it seems no way to rip onvia for this incident.

Here's what it is, confirmed:

" Windows Pro 2000 English/MultiLang Disk Kit CD Upg Boot Disks upgrade from Windows NT Workstation 3.51 or 4.0, Windows 95 or 98) B23-00808 disk kit only"

In other words, media but no license. So how how would one get a license number? Can an unlimited number of copies use the same license number? Can the license # be pulled off of an existing (installed) copy of @2K?

From my search on Google, it looks like it's part of their Word Wide Fullfilment program (like Chefsresource said, someone buys multiple licenses for a site and but then needs some disks). If you are going to e-bay them, don't be surprised if the auction gets removed before it is complete.

The first two links posted by "mikek" are only CALs (Client Access Licenses). In otherwords, an access licence for a previously licensed worksatation to access a previously licensed server. Yup, three licenses required.

Unless you have Exchange Server, then four (add Exchange CAL). Unless it's also an SQL server, then five.

Wonder where MS makes their money?

I tried to cancel but the guy said it had already processed and I should refuse the package. If I refuse the package will they return it to the sender? I've never done it before. Hope everything works out...
