What the OP is trying to talk about is the OnLive gaming service announced at the recent GDC. This service would render new games on top of the line hardware at OnLive's data centers, and stream the video to you. When you interact with the game, your key and mouse input is sent to the data centers to interact with the game.
Think of it as putting a network between your video card and monitor, and between your input devices and computer.
The reasons it may not work are stated in this article: http://www.eurogamer.net/artic...-possibly-work-article

Hmmm, that's an awesome idea. So you could play the latest games on a shitty computer with this service, in theory?

If you have no technical experience, how do you know it know for a FACT that it will be very laggy. On top of that if you've seen any of the videos from GDC, it shows it running just fine, not lagging.

But, I do agree that with more and more people it will become increasingly laggy. It will take a large amount of servers in order to supply the demands.

Try to imagine the processing required to render a single instance of a game. Now try to imagine several hundred thousands clients running at the same time. Quite different from a GDC booth with like 5 computers

Next, try to imagine the data for these games. Now try and imagine pushing all that data through for a elongated period of time using a household connection.
