Your link isn't correct. But anyway, that's quite a bit. You just need enough to fill in any small imperfections on the CPU IHS and the bottom of the HS.

I think the best way to spread out thermal paste is an old credit card. Put a dab in the center and spread out towards the edges. It should be thin and consistant.

It should not be see-through.
Just make a thin layer with a bank card.

just follow AS's directions. always apply to the CPU core/heatspreader, not the heatsink.

one strip down the heatspreader where the cores lie underneath should be sufficient when you evenly push down the heatsink on top.

Definlty apply to the CPU. I learned my lesson about getting AS5 in the cpu socket =(
