Hey guys, tonight I went in to a local computer shop to get some arctic silver 3 and broke down and got myself an Enermax BLUE ATX Mid Tower 300W Toolfree case for $70 to replace my ancient no name 3 year old case. Front cover is blue while the rest of the body looks golden I think.

My question is, is the PSU that comes with it any good for AMD 2200+? I'm worried that PSU might be a cheap kind, but the guy was all like, dude this is a very good quality PSU, Enermax makes the best PSUs ect. ect. I don't trust them though and decided to run this through you guys to see if I need to get something else.

PSU has a sticker about meeting P4 guidlines ect but says nothing about AMD. The case also said P4 ready. PSU is an 300W Enermax Switching Power Supply EG301P-VB. Its combined 3.3 and 5v is 170watts. 28A on +3.3v, 30A on +5v, 15A on +12v. It also says that it's a Passive PFC ATX Power Supply (what ever that means) and that its 80mm fan speed is monitored by motherboard. Anybody has any idea if this PSU is any good or should I return the case and get something else?

Thanx.

EDIT: Here's a link to the specs on enermax's website: http://www.enermax.com.tw/eg265p-vb.htm

Enermax makes fine PSU's and 300W is enough. Very good current specs on that 300W unit. You'd be surprised at what I've seen labelled as a 300W unit, far worse than what you've got there!

That will work for a basic system but it is slightly smaller than I prefer to run. I would rather have a 350w over this but don't get me wrong, this is a nice power supply. P4 approved means that it simply has the extra connections that a P4 motherboard requires. It is AMD approved, they have a list on their website somewheres.

That'll be an excellent PSU, unless you plan to make a fan wall for cooling :). You can't get too much better than Enermax and Enlight (enlights may skimpy on the specs a bit, but they are damn reliable), and those are very nice specs...in fact, many a 350w rated PSU would envy them...not to mention I know a single enermax 300w has no trouble running several SCSI drives, a palomino, half-dozen 2-3w fans, and a GF4 Ti4200 just fine.

Thanx for replying guys. That guy wasn't bsing after all :) Guess I will keep it for a while before upgrading to a 400watt or so PSU.

i personally own a 350W enermax power supply. i have been running it for over a year and it runs my overclocked system like a champ.
