Mods: if this is a repost...go ahead an lock. I searched paypal and didn't see any threads regarding this, unless I'm blind.

I got an email saying I need to go to

Here

and type in my email/password/reference code (found from email).

The email was from service@paypal.com and the website when clicked goes to "https://www.paypal.com" which is paypal's normal site. When I manual enter "accountcleanup" after the main url, I get the same webpage as their homepage.

I'm curious if anyone else out there got this. It seems legit as all the links go to paypal and it starts w/ https://

But i'd like to here from others first.

Thanks.

edit: oh yeah, it says if I don't do this in 5 days, my account will be frozen.

hmm...yeah thats what I thought.

How come I'm the only person who received this email. It was supposedly sent out to all verified members.

as long as the "https://www.paypal.com" is in the url, it should be legit right?

It's called 'phishing'... ok.. no link. But never click from email. Always type in directly. Can you go to the email and see where the link's code really is? Like right click and copy shortcut?

The link in my email reads "https://www.paypal.com/accountcleanup"

However, when I click that it goes to "https://www.paypal.com"

When I go over the link in my email, outlook express says in the corner "http://www.paypal.com"

When I click "copy shortcut", I get "http://www.paypal.com"

Everything seems to go to paypal legitametly.

I thought the slashdot one was regarding the lawsuit settlement. It seems that he has to do it to "prevent his account from being closed"

hmm... weird. So what did they want you to do... log in and that's it? I guess you can just type paypal directly and log in... see what happens..heh

Oh yeah you're right didn't read OP closely enough.

Anyway if its https://paypal.com it should be legit. Have you not used your acct for awhile?

cool thanks. do you have a link for it? I'm new to slashdot (heard of it, never visited it) and I don't know where I should look for it.

Just read some other posts...i guess its pointless for a link since you were referring to the settlement. thanks anyways.
