Is this DSL/Router ICS setup even possible?

My current setup:

- Two systems (P3 1ghz@1.33 and Celeron@950) running W2K Pro
- a 10/100 NIC in each system
- 5 port 10mbps hub completing the setup
- Alcatel DSL modem and connection on my main system

I have ICS setup on my main system and it seems to work fine. I gave up on XP because of the crappy networking/ICS sharing and re-installed W2K on both system. I have had no problems with ICS yet (knock on wood).

I am looking at getting a combination router/100mbps hub to upgrade my LAN speed and make my internet sharing completely hardware setup. However, my USB DSL modem does not have a ethernet connection nor any other output ports.

Is it even possible to setup ICS using a router/hardware only solution?

Spend a couple extra bucks over a hub and get a switch. It's well worth the money and less of a headache over collisions nad packet resends.

Check out this little doo dad.

Would this work to switch the USB output of the modem to CAT5 for a router?

Looks like it needs USB drivers so it probably won't work. Sorry.

If your modem is provided by your isp, try to get an ethernet modem. If they wont give you one, and they provide the modem, see if there is a replacement policy if it were to mysteriously stop working. Putting it in the microwave for 1 or 2 seconds will kill it. :) If it is your modem, you probably dont want to do this. Do not leave the modem in the microwave for extended periods > 2 or 3 seconds. It will catch fire and look really cool, but it will make all your food taste like burning plastic and may ruin your microwave the tech will also be intrigued and may ask you how it turned into a pile of goo. Creative thinking may be needed here. If you have the Alcatel Stingray, you can put it in your fish tank.

Some providers will allow you to switch within the first month of service as well.
