Is this digital camera worth the money?

I can get the Ricoh Caplio RR30 for around $190 shipped (specs) . The other camera that I'm looking at is a Canon A70 but that'll set me back an extra $100 or so - is the canon worth the extra cash or not? I know you can get an a70 for close to $250 after rebate but I literally only have $250 total cash to spend (with shipping).. So the question is, save up for the A700 or get the caplio... Thanks for any help!

YOu can get the A70 with a 128 meg Compactflash card for $250 + tax from Officemax with no rebates. I ordered mine on Sunday and got it yesterday. I'll find the link for you in a minute

On a side note I have the a70 and I'm pretty happy with it. Not the smallest of cameras out there, but it has a ton of manual settings. Just be sure to get some nice nickel hydride batteries.

How's the shutter lag on the a70? One reason I got rid of my nikon 3mp was because of the insane wait between shots..

I would not buy a RIcoh brand camera... stick to someone who is known for their cameras.... like Canon, Nikon, Olympus.

After the novelty of my Canon A40 wore off, it quickly became a $400 dust collector. As a matter of fact, a buddie of mine who purchased the Canon A60 a few months back, quickly got bored of that too. Digital cameras are more of a toy for people than a hobby, thus they quickly become disinterested.

Well, RICOH makes some failrly good regular cameras (35mm).. I have a wonderful point and shoot ricoh that rivals my more expensive olympus p&s and an all manual slr by ricoh that's my 2nd favorite camera (my favorite is my Nikon SLR).. Of course, I don't know anything about their digital cameras so you may be right..

too much generalizing going on there. My A40 got a lot of use. My A70 gets even more.

Actually, I want to get a digital camera to improve my photo composition skills.. I'm a film student and plan on making a short film pretty soon (real deal, not student film)..I figure a digital camera will allow me to practice composing pictures everyday until I perfect the art of quickly setting up effective shots.. If the a40 is more than 2 mp can I buy it off of you?

I agree. I got my Canon S110 2.5 years ago, and I've got over 15k pictures saved on my computer. That's not including the ones I've deleted. My wife and I are photo-holics. The camera goes almost everywhere with us. So, after that many pictures, I would say the Canon is a great quality camera.

You should definitely get a digital camera. Great for taking nude pics of yourself and evaluating ones own body.

My A70 still gets plenty of use. Got it a few months ago. I use it for pics with random friends. Pics of random things. I like to fiddle with the settings. I read sites about photography online. In short, my interest in photography has grown quite a bit since i first got it.

If I knew how to use my Canon A40 I'd use it a lot more often, instead it just sits in the box all alone.
